DAVID Shoko's late goal handed Dynamos a surprise victory over Zamalek and a place in the Champions League semi-finals.

The Egyptian club had to win the match against the 1998 finalists to stand any chance of progressing to the next phase of the continental showpiece.

However, the hosts snatched a historic victory when substitute Shoko hit a superb freekick in the 89th minute that was just too good for Zamalek goalkeeper Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed.

Dynamos will play Group B winners Coton Sport of Cameroon in the semifinals next month while Al-Ahly play Nigerian club Enyimba

Coton Sport mauled Enyimba 3-0 on Sunday but the Nigerians were already through after their main rivals Al Hilal of Sudan and TP Mazembe could only draw 2-2 on Friday.

Reiner Hollmann's men seemed out of sorts in Harare and rarely threatened DeMabare's goal.

Gamal Hamza's absence due to suspension played a role, but with the likes of Junior Agogo on the pitch Hollmann would have expected more from his team.

Instead it was Dynamos who started brightly and Edward Sadomba ought to have given his side the lead, however, he lacked the requiste compusure and failed to test Al-Sayed in the opening exchanges.

The half-time score was 0-0 and Benjamin Marere thought he had opened the scoring for David Mandigora's men until Al-Sayed saved his header about five minutes after the break.

Whites' sub Abdul-Halim Ali had the best chance but blasted his shot over the crossbar in the 86th minute.

Shoko then stepped up and etched his name into Dynamos folklore by firing in the winner one minute before full-time.

Al-Ahly have already qualified as Group A winners. They were kicking off late with Asec Mimosas who can now only finish third behind Dynamos if they beat Ahly in the late kickoff.
