Chiyangwa
held by Zimbabwe intelligence officials By
Staff Reporter Zimbabwe's independent SW Radio Africa reported last night that Chiyangwa who "vanished" on Wednesday last week was being held in connection with some "subversive material" they found on him. "It is thought the MP was distributing some subversive material that contained sensitive information about the Zanu PF top hierarchy, particularly the Vice-President Joseph Msika," the station reported, quoting unnamed sources. If the reports are true, then this will be the second time that Chiyangwa has been caught spreading anti-Msika literature following a daring bid to oust the aging veteran leader at a Zanu PF congress in Masvingo last year. Then, Chiyangwa led a renegade group of Zanu PF militants in a bid to expel the former PF-Zapu stalwart from the party claiming he was “supping with whites”. A document was
circulated and is said to have been handed to President Mugabe, claiming
Msika was “eating and drinking Whisky with whites”. Just days after Msika's warning, Chiyangwa was arrested for threatening a prosecutor and attempting to defeat the course of justice. Police spokesman Oliver Mandipaka has told the state media that the police were not holding Chiyangwa, sparking frenzied speculation about his wherabouts. The level of concern has been watered-down by his wife who has come up with a standard answer to all media enquiries, telling journalists that Chiyangwa is "fine" and resting before promising he would return their calls. Police commissioner
Augustine Chihuri told the state-run Sunday Mail over the weekend that
the beleaguered Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman was "fine"
but refused to disclose his location. |
