Rape suspect claims he was sodomised in prison By Lindie
Whiz
Edmore Kadzinga pleaded with magistrate Geoffrey Gogo for bail saying he risked being infected with HIV if sent back to remand prison. However, Gogo rejected Kadzinga's bail application, but ordered the prosecution team to investigate the allegations. Kadzinga sobbed in court while telling the court that one Francis Arufandika, another serial rapist, was sexually abusing him day and night in the cells. He said he was not in a position to protect himself against Arufandika who was more powerful and muscular than him. He left the pecked courtroom in stitches as he put up a resistance to the prison officer taking him back to the cells after the hearing. Zimbabwe Prisons Services officers later took Kadzinga to Harare Central Police Station where he filed charges against Arufandika and a docket was opened. Investigations are in progress to establish the veracity of the new sodomy allegations. Kadzinga has been denied bail on several occasions following his arrest in May for allegedly raping his pal's girlfriend on numerous occasions. He allegedly took advantage of his friend's absence and raped her. A report was made to the police leading to his arrest. The court remanded
Kadzinga in custody to July 26 this year. |
