ZIMBABWE'S media hangman Dr Tafataona Mahoso abused Media and Information Commission (MIC) funds, an MIC disciplinary hearing was told last week.

Suspended MIC financial director Clifford Gobo told an MIC board disciplinary hearing that Mahoso masterminded his suspension after attending a function at the Egptian embassy with a workmate who was also suspended in a bid to get rid of him as he was aware of Mahoso’s corrupt activities, documents submitted to the disciplinary hearing reveal.

Mahoso is said to have used MIC funds to finance needs by his family as well as hiring lawyers on MIC funds in personal matters.

A commissioner who attended the proceedings on Thursday revealed the startling allegations to New Zimbabwe.com.

He said the MIC disciplinary hearing had shelved a decision on whether to reinstate Gobo or fire him that was due Wednesday.

Our source revealed: “We are in a quandary. The allegations caught us by surprise. They allegations are coming at a tricky time as the government is about to decide on the MIC tenure."

The MIC’s tenure expired on Wednesday.

Deputy Information Minister Bright Matonga this week told reporters that Mahoso would not be going anywhere as he had done an “excellent job”.

He added that a decision would be announced at the end of the month.

Information Minister Tichaona Jokonya is currently out of the country and decides on the MIC's future.
