ZIMBABWEAN President Robert Mugabe was on Tuesday expected to swear in the country's 120 MPs, alongside provincial governors and resident ministers.

Entering his most crucial week, in which he is expected to announce probably his last Cabinet, Mugabe named four new governors and reassigned others, providing further tips about his forthcoming Cabinet.

The new governors announced by Mugabe were Tinaye Chigudu (Manicaland), Ray Kaukonde (Mashonaland East), Thokozile Mathuthu (Matabeleland North), Willard Chiwewe (Masvingo). Former Mashonaland East governor David Karimanzira becomes the governor for Harare Metropolitan, replacing the late Witness Mangwende.

There were no changes in four other provinces, Midlands (Cephas Msipa), Mashonaland West (Nelson Samkange), Matabeleland South (Angeline Masuku), Mashonaland Central (Ephraim Masawi) and Bulawayo Metropolitan where Cain Mathema is governor.

Political observers who spoke to New Zimbabwe.com said it was highly likely President Mugabe had reserved Cabinet posts for former Matabeleland North governor Obert Mpofu and Retired Lieutenant General Michael Nyambuya who both reclaimed two seats for Zanu PF in parliamentary elections two weeks ago.

Zanu PF won 78 of the 120 contested seats, to the MDC's 41. There was one independent, Professor Jonathan Moyo.

"It is clear Mugabe wants to reward the two," a Zanu PF source said. "Mugabe's two thirds majority agenda was made possible by their hard won victories against the MDC, and as he has demonstrated in the past, Mugabe rewards such things."

Mugabe also appointed 12 non-constituency MPs Monday. The 12 are Vice President Joseph Msika, outgoing Speaker of Parliament Emmerson Mnangagwa, his deputy Edna Madzongwe, Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa, Samuel Mumbengegwi, Labour Minister Paul Mangwana, Amos Midzi, Dr Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, Titus Maluleke, Canisia Sathiwa, Abigail Damasane and Munacho Mutezo.
