British hit reality show heads for Africa

Writing here this week, New Zimbabwe.com editor Mduduzi Mathuthu described Makosi Musambasi as behaving like an "Amazon squirrel" and and being a "self-obsessed, pathetic and sanctimonious squit" on the British reality TV show Big Brother. Big Brother fans have been reacting

Editor - I’m contacting you from a popular website for the UK television series Big Brother. I think you should be ashamed of the slating that you have given housemate Makosi Musambasi in the Sunday edition of your newspaper that I have read online.

You may or may not have completely realised the rules of the task – it is up to Makosi to generate the most nominations against her, in order for her to survive in the Big Brother house. It is a personal challenge that has been set to her, after she became the unlucky 1st housemate to go to the Diary Room in the house, through no fault of her own.

I think you should think very carefully before printing such a harsh article next time, you are the ones who are putting Zimbabwe to shame, not Makosi.

Editor - These contests have certain rules that one has to follow. Big Brother is not won by a goody goody but by the one who "can survive". Are you now the National Enquirer with all the unneccesary celeb gossip or what? Do u want oppression or what? I dare you to publish this letter....bet u can't!
Fikile

Editor - How dare you write such a biased and un-informed article about Makosi! I'm a Brit who's really offended by your article. Had you been a journalist in the UK you would have been fired and sued for libel. Makosi has done NOTHING wrong.
Bumpeesha

Editor - I beleive we live in a world that is free and democratic. On that note, I think anyone is free to do what they want just as Makosi is doing. You know Sir, you are the one who is narrow minded by saying that Zimbabweans are cultural people. Yes we are, but that does not mean we cannot do what we want. If you are against her you might as well be against Miss Zimbabwe because its the same Sir. Also for God's sake the lady is 24 and she is an adult free to do what she wants in life like what she is doing. Furthermore I think there is noone who knows the lady better than the Parents and that's why her father said she is a good girl. As for you, I suggest you start living in the new world, the new Zimbabwe. Stop being narrow minded and start seeing things as they are because in the new Zimbabwe we do not allow conservatives like
you.
Xman Kuwi

Editor - I just want to complain about the article written about Makosi Musambasi who is currently staring in 'a very good' television show over in UK. I think who ever wrote such bad press against Makosi is shallow, they do not even know the girl or the show but yet they are making judgement on her and Big Brother, this news hasn't gone down well over here and papers have already started slating this website. I strongly oppose what has been said about Makosi and feel that the website is rubbish and needs more facts before slating a great programme and a fantastic person, you may turn your back on people from your country but we will support her here.
John Smith

Editor - You Zimbabweans should be so proud of Makosi. The British Public LOVE HER! Also, we are all Big Brother fans and you should get your facts straight before running the programme down.

Why don't you spend some time promoting Makosi and feeling proud that she is well loved by the British and stop running her down? You are the ones who ought to be ashamed.

"Leave that sister alone. She is the one that makes me to watch that show. There aint no shame with that"
WISDOM CHITIYO

Editor - The report on your website has come to the attention of some of the UK Big Brother fans. I thought you should see the response (CLICK HERE).

Big Brother is to be taken lightly, it's an entertainment show and so far Makosi is playing Big Brother's game very well. This is our sixth series and Big Brother is a bully but all the Housemates knew that on applying for the show. She has been chosen at random to be the unluckiest contestant ever to be in Big Brother. She has to make her Housemates nominate her if she is to spared from the public vote this week and thus keep her place in the house. It is therefore Big Brother's fault that she is acting in such a way. It's a bit harsh to jump on her like that only 3 Days into the show when she has not yet been able to fully be herself due to her ulucky situation. Give her a break, I'd say she's doing Zimbabwe proud!

Makosi DOESN'T deserve to be a national hate figure you'd like her to be.

Editor - Let her do what she wants to do. She is brave enough to go forth and make her way into Big Brother. Makaitwa sei maZimba? Why can't you support her at least. I am disgusted with your attitude. Your job is to criticise your own people!

Get real and unite!
Cheeky Devil

Editor - That's a good article, thanks for looking out. I wasn't really surprised by the father's comment, there appears to be something amiss. Like father like daughter, and no wonder she turned out the way she is.

Cheers BOSS, good looking out.
Dzimbagocha

Editor - What do you mean when you say "our shame"?. Were you born in the tenth century. Come on man don't be like Mugabe, follow what's going on at the right time and the right place. If you are not in Zim, aren't you doing lots of oral sex? Yes you do because of the place you are in. Leave that sister alone. She is the one that makes me to watch that show. There aint no shame with that. Apart from being a show, she is looking for money to survive.
Wisdom Chitiyo

Editor - I was concerned to read the language you used to describe the Zimbabwean nurse on a UK big brother programme. I have not seen the
programme but as a Zimbabwean and a journalist, I feel that you were very strong and vulgar when describing her. Yes you could have felt hurt but writing for public reading, one should not take his/her views angrily to criticise one's mistaken behaviour. We are all humans on earth and not perfect, we make mistakes and need correction by respectful moulding from time to time. I feel your writing makes a mockery of all Zimbabweans by blasting one another.
Yours truly
HM

Editor - Firstly, it seems that you are the stupid one, since Makosi did not fail to follow a simple instruction to end up being nominated.

You are too opinionated, you generalised your own race, like you probably generalise everything. It makes your opinions easy to discard. Reading this article made me cringe.

I like Makosi, but I’m not e-mailing you to defend her. I just want to point out your clear as day flaws.
Sherv

Editor - Thaught that your article was slightly dillusional. How you can criticise
one of your countrymen for going on a game show so harshly? I suppose that
you feel that entertainment is wrong. And that your leader is a really nice
person.
Martin Sutcliffe
UK

Editor - I read the article on Makosi with utter disgust at the lack of knowledge and ill-informed writer. Please unless you have facts then don't try and make an argument.

In what way does Makosi bring shame to Zimbabwe? Your article does not support what it seeks to highlight. Or maybe you did the article in haste to catch the next show of Big Brother to watch the ever so entertaining Makosi. You are contradicting yourself. If Makosi surely claimed to be otherwise (opposite of a virgin) you would almost certainly say she brings shame to Zimbabwe. Please this is the exact ignorance that has brought the AIDS pandemic in our country. So what if she were'nt a virgin? The woman is 24 not 14, has a life, a profession and does not rely on anyone to look after her.

In terms of Makosi being 'stark naked' under the covers, please is that all you have to support that she is a shame. Just because someone took the covers off to reveal her naked does not make her a shame. What is a shame is that men like you still have these unfair attitudes towards your own women.

To make a correction, since you yourself did not understand what Makosi was set out to do; In simple words Makosi needs to be a villain to ensure she gets a vote from every single housemate to guarantee her survival.
