FORMER Big Brother bombshell Makosi Musambasi will run in Sunday's London Marathon to raise cash for a children's charity.

The Zimbabwean star, 26, will be part of the expected 40 000 runners in the marathon, which celebrities use to raise money for their chosen charities.

Keen to put up a good showing, Makosi has been a regular at the gym to attain a level of fitness that will see her through the gruelling 26.2-mile race (about 42.1km).

Makosi said Friday: "I'm going for it, and I intend to cross the finishing line. It's all for a good cause, and that's the best incentive needs to get up and do it on Sunday."

The difference between intending to cross the line, and actually crossing it can be as stark as that between night and day, as many have found out.

Statistics show that most runners "hit the wall" on or around the 20-mile mark, hardly encouraging for a former cardiac nurse who is more comfortable in the ward and the red carpet at celebrity get-togethers.

Founded in 1981, the London Marathon is the largest race of its kind in the world. Its runners enjoy some of London's finest landmarks as they face the challenge of completing the historic race.

Determined Makosi, who came third in the UK Big Brother TV show two years ago, launched a children's charity earlier this year.

And she told New Zimbabwe.com last December that her New Year's resolution was "charity, charity and more charity", adding that "without Mother Theresa, we need Mother Makosi."

Makosi's charity, called the Big 5 Africa works with various orphanages and children's charities in Africa.

She said: "I feel very blessed with the overnight fame and what better way to show appreciation than give help to the people who need it most. I have decided to dedicate most of my time to this cause."

Makosi also aims to get African First Ladies to be patrons and ambassadors for the charity in their given countries.
