IN an act of cold-blooded murder, a Tsholotsho man stabbed to death using a spear, three elderly people between the ages of 56 and 73 on Saturday over accusations of rumour mongering.

Police have since arrested the suspect, Noah Nkomo, who is now helping them with investigations following the murder of the two women and a male.

The gruesome killings occurred in the Sikhanye area of Tsholotsho when Nkomo, who had a four-year disagreement with the victims, speared them to death.

Sources at Tsholotsho Police Station identified the victims as Sipelile Ndlovu, 73, Abraham Dube, 71, and Selina Ndlovu, 56, who had been quarrelling with Nkomo since 2001.

“We understand Nkomo was always accusing the victims, who were his neighbours, of gossiping about him.

"The misunderstanding turned fatal on Saturday when Nkomo allegedly armed himself with a spear and stabbed them to death,” an officer at the police station said.

He said after the fatal stabbings, Nkomo allegedly set the homestead of one of the victims on fire.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector, Augustine Zimbili yesterday confirmed the incident and said Nkomo was now in police custody.

“I can confirm that Nkomo is helping the police with investigations in connection with the murder of three people. The incident happened on the 8th of this month.

He will appear in court soon charged with murder,” Zimbili said.
He urged the public to approach the police or elders in their area for arbitration if they have a misunderstanding among themselves.

“As usual, the police advise the public to solve their problems through negotiations. This unnecessary loss of lives could have been avoided if there had been dialogue among the concerned parties,” Zimbili added -- Daily Mirror
