Harare man raised businessman's child thinking it was his By Staff
Reporter Tapuwa Tunduwani, a Harare businessman, was on Friday ordered to pay $27 million in damages after he conceded to having an adulterous affair with a married woman. The illicit affair culminated in Nyasha Manhondo getting pregnant in 1998. According to court documents, Nyasha's husband, Leslie Manhondo, looked after the kid under the impression that the child was his. He only discovered his wife had cheated on him when he took a DNA test following a tip-off by friends. Justice Tendai Uchena in a judgment delivered Friday said the $27 million was for damages "for the general upkeep of the child to date, medical expenses and adultery damages" among other expenses incurred by Manhondo since 1998 when the child was born. The judge added: "Tunduwani shall make full payment into Leslie Manhondo's legal practitioner's trust account on or before 7 December 2006." Court papers revealed Tunduwani had sexual encounters with Manhondo's wife, Nyasha, and fathered the minor child called Shamiso born on October 17, 1998. The papers add that the lawful husband paid for medical expenses at private hospitals for the two's child who had "a series of heart surgeries performed on her as she was born with pulmonary atresia with an intact interventricular septum A hypoplastic right ventricle." According to the
court papers, Nyasha fell pregnant when her relationship with Leslie
"was rocky and weak". |
