ZIMBABWE'S former Information Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo on Tuesday withdrew his defamation suit against senior Zanu PF official Dumiso Dabengwa shortly after the Bulawayo High Court took a lunch recess.

Moyo was suing both Dabengwa and Zanu PF national chairman John Nkomo for defamation.

He was demanding Zim$2 billion from each of them.

The suit is based on reported comments that Dabengwa and Nkomo were alleged to have made at a Zanu PF district meeting in Tsholotsho in 2005, where Moyo is now the Member of Parliament.

Moyo, through lawyer Job Sibanda, has told the Bulawayo High Court that the two officials made allegations that he had plotted to oust President Robert Mugabe and his deputies from power.

Moyo will, however, press on with the claim against Nkomo. Dabengwa was set to appear at the High Court on Wednesday, now as a defence witness for Nkomo.

Dabengwa's lawyers are also set to ask the High Court to direct that Moyo foots their costs.

Moyo told New Zimbabwe.com late Tuesday that he had withdrawn the case for personal reasons.

"Those will become clear at the close of this case. It was after Dabengwa's opening statements that we decided to withdraw the case against him," Moyo said.

Dabengwa said he bore Moyo no hard feelings.

He said: "The matter could have been heard and solved internally. I have no hard feelings against him."
