TOP South African pop groups Mafikizolo and Bongo Maffin will stage two history making live shows in London and Coventry next weekend.

It will be the first time that Mafikizolo have used a live band for a UK concert, and the Coventry show is that first open-air performance by any South African or Zimbabwean group.

The Mafikizolo duo of lead vocalist Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe together with the Bongo Maffin trio of Stoan, Thandiswa and Jahseed will be in the travelling party of 25 people from South Africa, organisers said.

"This is a history making tour tailor-made for the family," said DJ Welly T, a spokesman for the organisers.

The two groups are expected in the UK on Wednesday morning, with promoters lining up a pre-party at the Lincolns Bar in east London.

Mafikizolo and Bongo Maffin -- both of Kalawa Jazmee -- will perform in London's Shepherds Bush Emipre on Friday, before staging a second show at the Coombe Country Park in Coventry on Saturday afternoon.

Welly T said: "The London venue closes at 2PM and we advise people to come early.

"In Coventry, our plan was to do a family event. It's quite a long time since many Zimbabweans and South Africans were able to attend shows as a family. We decided to make this a family event. There will be braai and free fun rides for children to make it a perfect family outing."

Welly T said they were prepared for a turn in the weather, with forecasts predicting a light drizzle on Saturday morning.

"We have two big tents which can accommodate up of 1 300 people. There is no chance of people being rained," he said.

It has been a mixed year for Mafikizolo after Nhlanhla announced she is releasing as a solo artist with TS Records, where her husband Thembinkosi 'TK' Nciza is an executive.

She, however, said she would continue to be a member of Mafikizolo although the group will not be releasing an album this year.

The dark cloud over the group's future was somewhat lifted with a glorious three South African Music Awards (SAMA) gongs in April for their latest blockbuster album, Six Mabone.

Zimbabwean Jahseed is a key member of Bongo Maffin and adds a reggae flavour to their music, often rapping in his native Shona.

Watch Mafikizolo and Bongo Maffin line at the Shepherds Bush Empire on Friday, June 22 (W12 8TT - 7PM-2AM) and at the Coombe Country Park in Coventry (CV3 2AB - 2PM -12AM) on Saturday, June 23
