Courage Shumba: MDC losing moral and political authority to oppose

A LEADING Zimbabwean opposition politician and legislator Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga has made a report to the police over threats to her life, the MDC said Thursday.

The phone threats on the life of the Member of Parliament for Glen Norah and deputy Secretary General of the opposition party's faction led by Arthur Mutambara were made over three days to her personally and to her maid, the party said.

"Misihairabwi Mushonga’s has over the last three days been receiving several threatening telephone calls from anonymous callers who have threatened to kill her," Gabriel Chaibva, the party's spokesman said.

On Tuesday, the MP's maid received several calls from a male voice in which the caller issued threats to the life of the MP, he added.

“While we do not yet know the motive or reason behind these threats, we suspect that the caller or callers might be reacting to a flier that was distributed in the MP’s constituency in which she sought to explain the circumstances that led to the collapse of the coalition talks between the two MDC formations.”

Last month, Mutambara blamed Tsvangirai, whom he branded a weak and indecisive leader, for the collapse of the talks between the rival opposition factions.

Chaibva said the matter had been reported to the police.
