A HARARE magistrate has issued a warrant of arrest for opposition MP Paul Madzore.

The Movement for Democratic Change's Glen View legislator is jointly charged with nine suspected opposition party youths for engaging in violence and destroying property worth $58 million.

Madzore failed to turn up in court Thursday and magistrate Paradzai Garufu issued a warrant for his arrest.

However, Garufu refused further remand for the other nine after the State failed to provide a trial date.

John Kamushinga, Edmund Boriwondo, Frederick Chihona, Tapiwa Dube, Chamunorwa Mashungu, Fanny Mudomera, Wilbert Makope, Michael Banda (all from Glen View) and Tapiwa Chikosha of Budiriro were charged with contravening the Public Order and Security Act (POSA) and Garufu said the State could always proceed by way of summons.

Madzore is out of custody on $1 million and his alleged accomplices were on $300 000 bail each.

The State alleged that some time in December last year, the legislator addressed a party meeting in his constituency. Later on in the day, he allegedly teamed up with about 20 party members and proceeded to Chemhanza Car Park, which also houses a Zanu PF youth project.

Madzore and gang allegedly shattered windows of six vehicles and broke windowpanes at a Zanu PF office and stole a Zimbabwe flag.

They all denied the charges - Daily Mirror
