By
Showbiz Reporter Reigning Miss Zimbabwe USA, Rudo Change, will hoist the Zimbabwean flag at the Miss Africa 2005 beauty pageant in Washington DC. This year's theme, AFRICA IS BEAUTIFUL, counters negative images portrayed by foreign media, organisers said. " High achieving women from twenty-five countries will show the true beauty of our continent and prove that Africa's beauty and strength lies in its people and natural resources," organisers said. Rudo Change, Miss Zimbabwe USA 2005, has been officially selected to represent Zimbabwe. Rudo will be competing against 25 other beautiful and intelligent women at the Warner Theatre in Washington DC. This year's event will be hosted by one of Africa's most popular actors, Jim Iyke, and celebrities from all over the world will also be present. Raised in Harare, Zimbabwe , Rudo Change came to the United States in 2001 and is currently studying towards a medical degree. In May this year she was crowned Miss Zimbabwe USA 2005 in Washington DC at the annual Miss ZimUSA pageant. She is now proud and honored to represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Africa International Pageant. The competition will have three categories: Evening wear, African Wear and Talent. Miss Zimbabwe USA's dress is being designed by a famous Zimbabwean desinger, who also designed the dress of the current Miss Zimbabwe -- Oslie Muringai. Over the next couple of weeks, Change hopes to raise $2000 for expenses, such as wardrope, travel and entry fees. Miss Zimbabwe has secured some sponsors and also has the support of the Maryland, Virginia and DC, Zimbabwean and South African community. "A daughter of of Zimbabwe has been selected as a delegate to promote the beauty and culture of Zimbabwe in our pageant," said Miss Africa International Executive Producer Ellen Dunbar. "Our goal is to promote culture, tourism and trade of each country represented." Change is a child
ambassador for World Vision and is currently in the process of establishing
her own non-profit organisation. If she wins the title of Miss Africa
International 2005, Rudo will receive over $10000 in prizes. She hopes
to use this title to further her orphanage initiative. |
