Miss Zimbabwe (UK) pageant set for London

A BEVY of Zimbabwean beauties based in the United Kingdom will line-up for the chance to be Miss Zimbabwe UK in London on December 11.

The beauty pageant, held under the theme "Out of Africa, Beauty With Brains" will take place on the sidelines of the forthcoming ZimExpo 2004 Exhibition for Zimbabwean companies to showcase their products and services.

Patience Lusengo, the co-ordinator of the pageant told New Zimbabwe.com Monday: "We want to provide an opportunity for the women of Zimbabwe to make their dreams come true."

She said the competition categories would be African wear, Casual wear, Evening wear and general knowledge - which will be judged under originality and individuality.

This willl be the first ZimExpo to be held in the UK after the event failed to take place in September due to delays in processing visas for exhibitors and delegates. The inaugural ZimExpo event took place in Indianapolis in 2002, with subsequent ones taking place in Dallas, Texas (2003) and Atlanta, Georgia in May this year.

Zimbabwe's former Industry Minister Nkosana Moyo is expected to be the guest of honour at the exhibition which will be held at the Croydon Hotel in London from 11-12 December.

"The Miss ZimUK judging system has been designed to encourage Integrity,
d istinction, and achievement among all contestants hence 'Beauty with Brains
pageant'," Lusengo said.

The organisers boast that the models will be dressed-up in an "unparallel fashion" by some of Zimbabwe's top fashion designers Susan Chihambakwe, Creed and MARCO.

"The designs exude a quintessential Zimbabwean vigour subdued by a sweet
