ZIMBABWE is this year represented at the Miss Model of Universe and Miss Bikini 2005 beauty pageants by 19-year-old Ropafadzai Garise, a finalist in the Miss Zimbabwe UK 2005 beauty pageant.

Garise, studying for a BSc Business Finance & Accounting at the University of Nottingham, flew out to Turkey early this month for the competitions whose finals will be held on 18 December.

Solution First Media, the organisers and event managers of ZimExpo (UK) and Miss Zimbabwe UK would not say exactly why Miss Zimbabwe UK 2005 winner, Primrose Mutsigiri, did not make the trip to represent Zimbabwe.

Chris Masikati, a spokesman for Solution First Media said: "Primrose did not travel for personal reasons while the first and second runners up are involved in other things. Ropafadzai finished in the top five and we are confident she will do the nation proud."

Garise started modeling at a tender age and has won several competitions including Miss Africa & Caribbean UK 2004.

Solution First Media said it aimed to give all the contestants in the Miss Zimbabwe UK annual pageant the opportunity to further their modeling
careers by sending them to various international competitions.

Meanwhile, the Miss Zimbabwe UK organisers have distanced themselves from a Miss Zim UK 2005 event screened on the Original Black Entertainment (OBE) television last week.

The screened beauty pageant, held a day before the ZimExpo-sponsored Miss Zimbabwe UK 2005, showed chaotic scenes with only five contestants and a very poor crowd.

In an embarassing moment, one contestant said Zimbabwe was once the "bread winner of Africa", which was possibly meant to be "bread basket of Africa".
