Ropa wins Miss Global beauty pageant

SULTRY Zimbabwean beauty, Ropafadzai Garuse, has won the Miss Global International pageant held in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Apart from winning the beauty competition last Saturday, she also took first prize in the music talent show.

She becomes only the second Zimbabwean to win an international beauty contest after Brita Masalethulini who won Miss Malaika.

She told New Zimbabwe.com by phone from Jamaica: "Words fail me when I try to tell you how happy I am. I wish to thank all your readers who have sent e-mails supporting me and my team at Solution First who have shown belief in me."

Ropa, 20, walked away with cash and prizes worth close to $US15 000.

She was one of the finalists in the ZimExpo Miss Zimbabwe UK 2005. She participated in the Miss Bikini beauty contest held in Turkey last year.

Ropa beat queens of the catwalk from 50 countries including Puerto Rico, the UK, Sri Lanka, India, Guyana, Nicaragua, Dominica, Belize, Barbados, The Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Switzerland, Germany, St Lucia, Canada, Turks & Caicos, Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia, Dominican Republic and Surinam.

A spokesman for Garise's modeling agency Solution First said: "Ropa has done us proud and we are absolutely delighted for her. She has been working hard and these are only the rewards."
