NEW ZIMBABWE.COM READERS' CHOICE: Nonsikelelo Dube waits for a question from a judge last Saturday

By Showbiz Reporter

TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Sindiso Muhlwa wiped off tears after she was crowned Miss Zimbabwe UK in London last Saturday night.

Making a second attempt at the crown after finishing as 2nd princess last year, Muhlwa impressed a panel of five judges on the night to win the crown.

There was no place in the top three for pre-contest favourite Nonsikelelo Dube, 17, who however won a special award for Miss Zimbabwe UK Internet after 32 percent of New Zimbabwe.com readers backed her to win.

Tatenda Sithole, 26, won approval from the judges for 1st Princess, with Nyasha Dire coming in as a surprise 2nd Princess.

Muhlwa -- who has featured in six music videos and is a professional model – is a keen movie goer and watches at least two movies every week. She has also tried a hand at poetry, and drama script writing.

She is a veteran of dozens of fashion shows and beauty pageants, but winning Miss Zimbabwe UK was her sweetest moment yet, she said.

There were a few murmurs of disapproval from the gathered audience when Nonsikelelo Dube missed the cut for the top three, but organisers revealed later that she had bombed the question and answer segment with judges.

Until then, she was comfortably leading on most of the judges’ score sheets, said Rodah Magwizi, one of the organisers.

Faith Matambanashe, the Miss Zimbabwe UK 2006, handed over the crown to Muhlwa, and jokingly told the audience: "There will only ever be one Miss Zimbabwe UK 2006."
