A 21-YEAR-OLD Zimbabwean university student was crowned Miss Face of Africa in Nottingham, England, last Saturday.

Radiography student Florence Chirozvi, from Chesterfield, won the pageant at first attempt.

She told New Zimbabwe.com she was “completely petrified” by the suspense of waiting for the winner to be announced.

“This was my first time to do it, you need nerves of steel to do it,” she said.

Another Zimbabwean Melissa Sanele Nyathi, 18, was crowned second princess. Melissa works for Nottingham City Council and was having a second crack at the Miss Face of Africa title.

Ida Marie Njre from Gambia, 20, was voted second princess at the event held at the spectacular Albert Hall.

One of the judges, the Leeds-based events manager and organiser of the Miss Valentine's beauty pageant, Doreen Guzuwe, had praise for the field of contestants at this year's event.

She said: "The models were fantastic, well drilled and professional. The whole show was good. What stood out with Florence for me was her confidence and personality. She has a supermodel look and an inner beauty captured by her answer to the judges' questions."
