Mzekezeke, Trompies set for UK

By Showbiz Reporter

TWO of Kwaito’s biggest names – Mzekezeke and Trompies will rock London and Leeds on 12 and 13 November.

The tour comes on the back of two hugely successful recent tours by Trompies who toured with Mdu, and Mzekezeke who was accompanied by Mafikizolo.

Also part of Mzekezeke’s touring party will be Brown Dash who is currently riding high on the crest of the wave with his new hit album Umthandazo Wabolova.

The tour coincides with the launch of Mzekezeke’s new album Snakes, produced by The Godfather, hit maker Mdu Masilela. The album sold 50 000 copies in advance orders, and is expected to hit triple platinum - a feat Mzekezeke achieved with his first album Sguqa Ngamadolo.

Mzekezeke, the masked Kwaito singer who says he is reclaiming the music for the streets has swept the boards at award ceremonies. A sworn celebrity-hater who came from the streets of Tembisa, Johannesburg, to make a name for himself as a DJ has had a physical confrontation with Ja Rule and sold more CDs than many established kwaito artists before him.

Mzekezeke whose real name is Zakhele, hails from Mnonjaneng, Tembisa. This humble 22 year old who comes from a family of six left school in standard eight with an ambition to become a Kwaito star.

His persistence to become a Kwaito star saw him knocking on every Kwaito musician’s door, but nobody would give him a chance. Until one day he landed on the doorstep of Y-FM DJ Sbu who saw the determination in the eyes of this young man and introduced him to DJ Rudeboy Paul and Unathi of the same station. Dj Sbu and Mzekezeke made Paul and Unathi an offer they could not resist and that was the start of the Mzekezeke era of radio.

Mzekezeke’s refreshing Kasi style of treating celebrities like ordinary people helps to remind the musicians that they are still human, no matter how big they may be. This style has become an Mzekezeke trademark where you tune into the radio to hear what he's gonna say next. He gives you unedited Kasi comedy.

Dance Kings Trompies have been around much longer and they need no introduction to UK audiences.

They recently launched their latest album Respect, which has the catchy tune Sasimngaka – already an anthem in many houses and nightclubs across the UK.

After all, this is the group that brought us tunes like Sweet Lavo, Magasman and Fohloza.
