Mafikizolo in UK for three live shows

Mafikizolo star Nhlanhla promised to 'bring the house down'
VOW: Mafikizolo star Nhlanhla promised to 'bring the house down'

By Mduduzi Mathuthu

MAFIKIZOLO arrived in the UK on Wednesday for three live concerts at venues across England promising to “bring down the house”.

In an exclusive interview with New Zimbabwe.com from their London hotel, the two-member group which recently lost a third member to a road rage shooting vowed: “We are here to entertain.”

Group member Nhlanhla who recently became a mother spoke of how blessed she was, saying the birth of her baby girl had induced in her a steely determination to work even harder.

“I look at this as a blessing for me. I see it as something that a woman has to go through. Now I know I have to work harder for my baby. It’s fantastic,” Nhlanhla told us.

Mafikizolo will take to stage alongside Zimbabwe’s sungura music king Simon Chopper Chimbetu and kwaito hot shot Mzekezeke who is due to arrive in the UK on Thursday.

On Thursday your favourite Zimbabwe news site will bring you an exclusive interview with Mzekezeke and on Friday we ask Simon Chimbetu about his links with Zanu PF and he tells us why he is misunderstood. READ IT HERE FIRST

“We are still the same vibrant group,” Nhanhla says when asked if the death of Tebogo Madingoane had affected the group’s performances. “We know Tebogo would have wanted us to continue and that’s what we are doing. His death affected us emotionally and otherwise….but we have to carry on.”

Three shows are lined-up for London (Friday 30 July), Birmingham/Aston Villa (Saturday 31 July) and Bradford (Sunday 01 August).

“We are here to entertain,” Nhlanhla said. “It’s good when the people hear the music but sometimes you need to identify the music with the faces. You better come and see it yourself.”

Nhlanhla said they would be playing songs of old and the latest hits from their top selling alubum Kwela which has the catch tunes Emlanjeni and Udakwa Njalo.
