Kwaito explosion for City of Kings
By
Staff Reporter Mafikizolo will share the stage with kwaito king Mzekezeke, in what promises to be the best show of the year. Local acts such as Iyasa and upcoming kwaito groups Amagents and Achuzi will also perform at the show. The southern African tour organised by Fanta will take Mzekezeke to Malawi, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe among other countries. It is believed to be a marketing stunt targeting youths by the soft drink giant. Bothwell Chikosi, the acting sales services manager for Delta Beverages who are hosting the Zimbabwean leg of the tour, is optimistic the show will see a huge turnout of fans from across the country. Chikosi said: "We are very excited to be hosting these two artists who we hope will attract a big audience from around the country. All the countries in the region; Botswana, Swaziland, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Lesotho are hosting this same event for the year." Mafikizolo, whose new album Kwela has sent shockwaves across many parts of the African continent, are expected to showcase their best as they seek to establish a marked presence on the Zimbabwean market. Mzekezeke, the bane of South African celebrity culture, is releasing his new album Snacks on 16 October. He is expected to play some tracks from his new album. As
always, he will be touring with Brown Dash who has emerged from Mzekezeke's
shadow, enjoying chart success with his album Umthandazo Wabolova
which was released in July. The album had sold over 60 000 inside three
weeks of release. |
