Oskido for Bradford, Leicester and Luton gigs

Oskido, DJ Fresh in UK for weekend gigs

By Steven Ra' Sibula

SOUTH African hit maker Oscar Mdlongwa, affectionately known as "Oskido", arrived in England Friday morning for three gigs in Bradford, Leicester and Luton.

Oskido, the lead member of Brothers of Peace, DJ and producer is the hottest record producer in Southern Africa -- making hits for top acts like Mafikizolo, Trompies, Ihashi Elimhlophe and the whole Kalawa Jazzmee stable.

Born in South Africa but raised in Zimbabwe, Oskido moved back to South Africa in 1987 and set on a path to stardom at the Arena Niteclub in Hillbrow where he was 'spinning' on Saturday afternoons.

Some of today's foremost kwaito stars, including Boom Shaka's Thembi, Lebo, Theo and Junior, hung out and performed at the club. E'Smile and the guys from Skeem were all regulars, as were Mandoza and the Chiskop boys.

Oskido joined YFM 99.2 in 1997 as a DJ and presenter. He hosts the popular Sunday evening dance music slot, Oskido's Church (18:00-22:00). Oskido's first CD compilation was Oskido's Church Grooves: The First Commandment (released in 2001), which went platinum and the Second Commandment which sold gold in just over a week after it was released. He will soon be releasing the Fifth Commandment.

In 1999, he formed record label, Kalawa Jazzmee Records in collaboration with musician/producer, Don Laka and DJ/producer, Christos Katsaitis. As part of music group, Brothers of Peace (BOP), he has produced numerous hits for various artists, including Boom Shaka, Bongo Maffin, Mafikizolo, Trompies, Malaika and many others.

Oskido's music has recently been picked up and remixed internationally by Masters at Work.
