THE Zimbabwe government has cut off fuel supplies to legislators due to foreign currency shortages, it was established Monday.

Members of Parliament from Zanu PF and both formations of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) last received free fuel last year.

Zanu PF’s chief whip Joram Gumbo said the cut was “only temporary”.

“It is only temporary. The authorities are looking into that matter,” Gumbo said.

Late last month, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said the inclusive government had adopted empty coffers from the previous one party government of President Robert Mugabe.

The inclusive government has so far made appeals for international financial aid to pay teachers and nurses’ salaries as well as for food and general aid in an effort to roll back the worsening humanitarian conditions in Zimbabwe.
