ZIMBABWE’S most celebrated footballer in history Peter Ndlovu is to be offloaded by English First Division side Sheffield United, New Zimbabwe.com can reveal.

Sheffielf United manager Neil Warnock who narrowly missed on a premiership play-off spot this season has been told by the Sheffield United board that he would not have extra cash to spend during the off-season and he has to cut the wages bill of his stars.

Also going is Wales international Robert Page, the current skipper, as United boss Warnock launches his fresh assault on promotion to the Premiership.

Zimbabwe national team skipper Ndlovu’s contract is due to expire next year. But Warnock has agreed to release him together with Page and Andy Parkinson, among others, to be free agents ahead of next season.

"With the squad being small I have to try to wheel and deal in the transfer market and there are areas I want to improve before the start of next season," Warnock told the club's official website.

"The only way I can do that is by sacrificing players currently in the squad."

In a mass clear-out, Warnock has handed free transfers to seven other first-team players whose contracts have expired. Mike Whitlow, Colin Cryan, Mark Rankine, Danny Wood, Steve Jagielka, Kristian Rogers and Sasa Ilic have all been told to find new clubs.

The move will come as a devastating blow to the Zimbabwe international skipper whose appearances for Sheffield United in recent months have been disappointing.

He scored 9 league goals in the 2003/04 season.

Ndlovu first moved to Britain in 1993, joining Coventry City from former Zimbabwe soccer champions Highlanders. He later joined Birmingham City for £1,6m in 1997 before moving to Sheffield United.
