A HAULAGE truck involved in a crash that killed Susan Tsvangirai, wife of Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister, was bought by the American Embassy and donated to a local charity, New Zimbabwe.com can reveal.

Sources have told this website that the truck is a Nissan UD model, like the one pictured.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and his wife were being driven in a Toyota 4x4 Landcruiser going to his rural home in Buhera when they were sideswiped by the truck. Their Cruiser was forced into a spin – rolling over at least three times, his spokesman James Maridadi said.

The Prime Minister’s official car is a Mercedes S500, although he rejected a government driver. For the visit to Buhera, he opted to use the Landcruiser supplied by his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party as he was not on government business.

The Prime Minister’s motorcade normally consists of a minimum three vehicles, including security officers. Evidence from the occupants of the other vehicles in the motorcade will be crucial in establishing what exactly caused the crash.
