KWAITO whizz, Brickz, Afro Pop chart toppers, Malaika, and Ntando lead the nominations for the South African Music Awards, organisers will announce Friday.

Brickz, ruling the kwaito scene with DJ Cleo's production, Sweety My Baby, is nominated for FOUR awards in the Best Newcomer, Best Song of the Year (Sweety My Baby), Best Kwaito Album (Face Brickz) and Artist of the Year categories.

DJ Cleo himself looks a good bet to win the Best Dance Album of the Year with Es'khaleni Ext 2 out of which pops out the monster song, Goodbye. He faces competition from Black Coffee, DJ Christos, KB and Skizo.

Malaika, currently riding the wave with their hit album, Vuthelani, are also nominated in FOUR categories: Best Duo or Group, Song of he Year (Muntuza/2 Bob), Best African Pop Album (Vuthelani) and Artist of the Year.

Ntando also has four nominations with his new Imvelaphi album which has sold double platinum since release. He is nominated in Best Adult Contemporary Album: African, Best African Pop Album, Artist of the Year and Song of the Year (Dali Wam).

It is a bad year for some of kwaito's leading artists like Mzekezeke, Mdu, Brown Dash and Kabelo who totally missed out on the nominations. Also missing is Mafikizolo -- probably suffering for having released their album before the festive period.

The biggest winners yet could be Kalawa Jazmee Records, with Spikiri nominated in two categories, including a double nomination for Best Kwaito Album (Simply the Best, and Gangstas Party). He is also nominated in the Song of the Year category for his hit, Current.

Thebe's smashing album, Lenyora, could also net him two awards: Best Kwaito Album (Lenyora) and Song of the Year (Safety Belt).

Bongo Maffin who recently reunited for their New Construction album are also in the hat for the Best Duo or Group award.

The annual awards will be held in April.
