Grace Mugabe impostor arrested By Fortune
Mbele Rosemary Chakacha (23) was not asked to plead when she appeared before magistrate Omega Mugumbate last week, facing a charge of fraud. The State alleges that some time last week, Chakacha phoned the matron at Harare Central Hospital and purported that she was the Grace Mugabe and was sending two girls to immediately start training as nurses. She allegedly insisted
that the girls would specifically look for the matron, only known as
Guduza. On arrival at the hospital, they requested to see Guduza and introduced themselves as the girls sent to her by Mugabe. Guduza processed their papers and advised them that they would be contacted when vacancies were available. The two girls asked for a letter of confirmation and left. Later on the same day, an unsatisfied Chakacha allegedly phoned Guduza, again as the First Lady, threatening that Dr David Parirenyatwa (Minister of Health and Child Welfare) had previously informed her of vacancies arising from some expelled students who had more than one ‘O’ Level sitting. Guduza then asked
for her telephone number so she could report back to her. Guduza reported
the matter to the Medical Superintendent, who made inquiries with the
President’s Office and made a report to the police. A trap was
set and Chakacha and Chiedza were arrested the following day. The State, represented by Rodin Mzyece charges that the misrepresentation by Chakacha created an impression that Grace Mugabe uses her status to gain favours on behalf of other people. Chakacha, who allegedly
used her father’s phone to commit the offence, was remanded on
$100 000 bail to October 1 - Daily Mirror |
