A ZIMBABWEAN man who beat his pregnant wife with a belt and threatened to burn her with a hot iron has been caged for two and a half years in England.

Farai Mangombe, 37, subjected wife, Delicious, to a “terrifying ordeal”, putting his hands around her throat and ordering her to abort the unborn child.

The couple lived in Milton Keynes.

Meanwhile, another Zimbabwean who worked at the Priory Clinic in Marchwood, Southampton, has been jailed for stealing the identity of a friend to get the job.

Asylum seeker Washington Kadye, 40, used the passport, national insurance card and other documents of a friend - who had permission to stay in the country - to sign up with an employment agency. His true identity was rumbled when he was stopped for a motoring offence.

Kadye pleaded guilty to making false representations for gain, namely £13,500 in wages. He later skipped bail and fled to Northern Ireland but was arrested by immigration officials in Manchester.

Kadye told Southampton Crown Court he was sorry but had been working to support this wife in New Zealand and a child left behind in Zimbabwe.

Jude Derwin Hope sentenced him to nine months jail for fraud and a further two months for failing to show at court.
