| Laughing Zimbabwean teenage killer faces life in UK jail
By
Staff Reporter Billy Ward, 21, of Croydon, was knifed 10 times after Starfield Badza and an accomplice provoked him into a fight. Badza, 19, and his co-accused Junior Lumbango, had denied murder at the Old Bailey – each blaming the other for the fatal stabbing. The pair was told they face life behind bars for killing Ward in front of his girlfriend. They were remanded in custody to be sentenced on November 18. Ward was stabbed ten times in the heart, lungs, chest and back after getting off the N159 with his girlfriend on his way home in New Addington around 3.30am on December 8 last year. CCTV footage showed the two killers attempting to intimidate Ward, poking him in the cheek, forcing him and his girlfriend Carrie-Ann to move to another part of the bus. At one point, Badza made the shape of a gun and tried to slap Ward around the back of the head. Badza and Lumbango got off at Gravel Hill, Croydon, and goaded Ward to come outside. Fatally, he jumped over the rail and downstairs after them. A fight ensued
and as Ward gained the upper hand, they got him in a headlock and stabbed
him to death – laughing as they walked away. |
