| Ex-cop jailed for knife attack on wife in Leeds
Posted to the web: 19/12/2008 10:51:21 Arthur Dube stabbed wife Annah twice in the stomach causing horrific injuries. She required major surgery and a month-long stay in hospital. As she staggered away to get help, the couple's three-year-old disabled son Trevor wandered off from the house in Beeston. The couple had escaped Robert Mugabe's brutal regime and settled in Beeston in 2002 while Dube successfully completed a law degree, Leeds Crown Court heard. But the relationship broke down in March this year. Prosecutor Thomas Storey said Dube conned his way into his estranged wife's home in Trentham Avenue, Beeston on June 20 on the pretence of visiting Trevor, who is deaf, dumb and autistic. Dube told Annah he was the one who paid for her to come to the UK and tried to persuade her to have him back. But when she refused he got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her in the stomach. Prosecutor, Thomas Storey said Dube, now of Manor Farm Way, Middleton, then turned the knife around and asked his wife to stab him. She refused and he stabbed her a second time. Annah grabbed the knife, cutting the tendons in her hand, and ran away to flag down a passing motorist. When police and paramedics arrived the couple's son was discovered in the yard of a house after crossing the road alone. The knife cut Annah's liver, gall bladder and small intestine. The court heard she is terrified of Dube and does not want to see him again. Alasdair Campbell, for Dube said his client worked as a military policeman in Zimbabwe and later as a prosecutor in the country's civil courts. Jailing Dube, Recorder Anthony Hawks said Dube could have killed his wife in a "moment of madness." He said: "It was a horrendous experience for her and she will probably never get over. "You have led a hard-working and industrious life and have overcome a considerable amount difficulties having come from a very sad and troubled country." Dube had admitted
