Woman pours hot cooking oil on sleeping hubby By Mduduzi
Mathuthu Costa Chitamba, 22, was in the intensive care unit of an Essex serious burns hospital after the Sunday night incident which has shocked the Zimbabwean community in Luton. Chitamba's girlfriend of four years, Bianca Chikanya, thought to be 22, was in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon. No comment could be obtained from the police last night. She could face charges of attempted murder. Friends of the couple said trouble started late on Sunday when Chitamba came home and told Chikanya that he wanted to end the relationship because of her alleged infidelity. "Chikanya was having none of it and the row continued until Chitamba decided to take leave by going to bed," a close friend of the couple told New Zimbabwe.com. "While he was sleeping, Bianca proceeded to boil cooking oil before pouring it over Costa's face and genital area while he was sleeping." Soon after the attack, Chikanya is said to have phoned Chitamba's brother and warned him: "Your brother will die today". Friends said they
did not remember any major confrontations between the two prior to Sunday's
incident. They however indicated that Chitamba, a carpenter of repute
in the Luton area, had expressed reservations about his girlfriend's
love for nightclubs and parties. |
