A ZIMBABWEAN man who won nearly £50,000 in a race claim against the Glasgow council has been stripped of his compensation.

Social work manager Clarence Bvunzai, 55, was awarded the cash last year after he won a racial discrimination case against his employers at a tribunal.

He said he had been overlooked for a promoted post because he was black.

An appeal tribunal, chaired by Lord Johnston, has quashed the decision to award Bvunzai £48,681 in compensation.

It said the ruling in favour of Bvunzai, who had made four previous unsuccessful claims of racial discrimination against the council, was 'nothing short of perverse'.

Bvunzai, of Hollinwell Road, Summerston, still works for the council - at a special unit for people with learning difficulties.
