Zimbabwe student in UK credit card fraud By Staff
Reporter Chrissy Dlamini, 23, a student at the Imperial College in London was given a stolen credit and bank statement belonging to Elvis Z Hammond by a friend, a court heard. On Thursday, May 12, he made a special trip to the Comet superstore on Blackpole Road, Worcester, to secure £2,982 worth of electronic equipment. He gave staff the card and statement as a proof of identity, prosecutors said. He was told to return in a week's time to pick up the goods. On his return, he was told to wait for up to an hour during which time the store rang the police, and he was arrested. He admitted handling stolen goods, and attempting to use a fraudulently obtained credit card. A Worcester magistrate also heard the 23-year old from Lychett Way, Enfield, fled Zimbabwe via Nigeria in 2002 to escape presecution at the hands of President Robert Mugabe's regime. He successfully claimed asylum and is now two years into his degree course at the university. On Friday, a Worcester magistrate ordered a pre-sentence review and granted him conditional bail to reside at his home in Enfield, Greater London. He will be sentenced in Worcester on Thursday, June 16. Do you have
