Zimbabwean named in UK rape hunt

By Staff Reporter

POLICE in Manchester, England, have named a Zimbabwean man as their chief suspect following the rape of a 16-year-old school girl.

Manchester police have released still pictures of Tariro Masawi in the hope that he will either hand himself in or his friends will smoke him out of his hide-out.

The girl was found unconscious on the bed of a flat in Dickenson Road, Longsight, by her friend and staff from their boarding school last September.

They also found a man -- believed to be Masawi -- hiding in a wardrobe but left him there as they rescued his alleged victim.

When police arrived the man had already fled.

Manchester police say they believe Masawi is still in the United Kingdom.

Detectives think he has been in the UK since April 2005 but do not know where in the UK he is now.

Anyone with information about where Masawi is should contact police.
