suspends 28 student over protests

Staff Reporter The suspended 28 include five student leaders, according to the Student Solidarity Trust. Meanwhile, the University of Zimbabwe has suspended another student, Wellington Zindove. The Trust said in
a statement: “University authorities at the National University
of Science and Technology have suspended 28 students pending a hearing
in the vice chancellor’s Board room at Nust on the 28th of “The 28 include Beloved Chiweshe (SRC president), Mzwandile Ndlovu (SRC S.G), Isaac Chimutashu (former SRC president), Benjamin Nyandoro (former SRC president) and Lawrence Mashungu (National Vice chairperson of the Zimbabwe Students Christian Movement), among others,” it added. The students, said the Trust, were charged with an assortment of offences which include demonising and castigating the government and the institution’s vice chancellor as well as malicious injury to property. “The students at the NUST have been in perpetual protest at the college since the semester started, at the massive fee increments by government which students have termed “Operation Murambashasha”, and have demonstrated at least 4 times this semester, including on the 13th of February,” the solidarity Trust added. The first arrests were on February 13 in which police nabbed seven students. Two days later, 24 students were arrested and eight others were caged on 20 February. Police returned again on March 10, arresting 10 students. However, the suspended students were charged for the February 15 demonstrations Students at Zimbabwe's
