WARRIORS care-taker coach Rahman Gumbo has three matches to get the job permanently, or be replaced by Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar.

Gumbo has led Zimbabwe to a four-match unbeaten run since taking over from Sunday Marimo. The run of form includes matches in the Cosafa Castle Cup, the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games.

Gumbo’s record has forced the Zimbabwe Football Association to temporarily shelve plans to bring in Grobbelaar as Marimo’s substantive replacement.

The news comes in the wake of clear-the-air talks between Gumbo, Zifa and his employers Motor Action who have demanded to know whether Gumbo would like to stay with the Warriors or continue with his job at the club.

"We are still to meet as a committee but the general consensus is that we give them until the end of the year.,” ZIFA spokesman Wyatt Mpofu said.

"There is a certain target that they have to meet and we will review the situation in December to see if they have achieved those targets.

"Since Gumbo is a full-time employee of Motor Action, we will also have to meet with his club and clear some issues on the contract.

"We also want to ensure that whatever boardroom problems we have they must not spill over to the team,’’ said Mpofu.

The developments mean Gumbo WILL be in charge of Zimbabwe’s biggest game this year, the Group Four showdown with Nigeria at the National Sports Stadium on September 5.
He also has the little business of the Cosafa Cup to take care of before the Warriors engage Angola in Luanda in October.
