FORMER Zimbabwe international and Bush Bucks defender Dumisani Mpofu has joined the long list of Zimbabweans who now ply their trade in the Mvela Golden League after he joined Western Province United.

Mvela Golden League is the second most competitive league after the Premier League.

Reports from South Africa confirmed Mpofu has moved to Cape Town from East London – the base of Bush Bucks.

Mpofu said: “I have signed for Western Province but the deal is yet to be finalised as there are still some personal details that need to be sorted out. But I will definitely be playing for them though at this moment I can’t reveal further details about the deal.

“The reason why I am yet to play for Western Province is because I am back here in East London sorting out my papers. I am certain all will be well in the new year and I will be back playing again.

“What makes it even easier for me is that two of my former teammates from Bush Bucks Anele Zibi and Sibusiso Dabi are already playing there after I recommended them to the club. I initially went to Western Province on trial for a week and they were impressed.”

Mpofu a hard man during his peak was known for his no nonsense approach and would mark even some of the greatest players on the African continent out of the game.

Some of the notable names he gave a torrid time include Ghanaian legend Abedi Pele and Angola captain Fabrice Akwa.

Before moving to South Africa, Mpofu played for Blackpool and CAPS United.
