| Zimbabwe ranked 95th in FIFA ranking Posted to the web: 18/12/2008 20:39:16 AFTER a disastrous 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations campaign, Zimbabwe ended the 2008 season ranked 95th in the world and 27th in Africa. This is a according to the end of year FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings released Wednesday. The Warriors, under sacked Brazilian coach Jose Valinhos, drew 0-0 against Guinea, beat Namibia 2-0, lost 2-0 to Kenya, drew 0-0 against Kenya and Guinea before losing 4-2 to Namibia to bow out of the qualifiers. They accumulated 373 points. Kenya are the biggest African movers, jumping 17 places to 68th. Cameroon remain the highest placed African side, in 14th place overall, while Egypt jump five places to 16th. Nigeria move into the world top 20, up three places to 19th, benefiting from an unbeaten run so far in World and Nations Cup qualifying. Ghana are up one place to 25th, Ivory Coast drop one to 29th, while Morocco, Mali and Tunisia all feature within the top 50. Senegal move one spot to 50th place, despite missing out on qualifying for both the Nations Cup and World Cup. Fifa's "Best Movers of 2008" top ten list features five African sides. Burkina Faso moved a massive 51 places in 2008 to finish 62nd in the world. Egypt, Sierra Leone, Gabon and Kenya also feature on the list, after seeing their rankings rise over the past 12 months. Spain remains top of the rankings. The top 10 teams (in order) are all European and South American: Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Croatia, England, Russia and Turkey who have toppled Czech Republic and Portugal from 10th position.
