CHAMPIONS CAPS United have agreed to release Charles Mhlauri so that he takes up the Warriors job on a full-time basis.

Mhlauri who has been coaching the Warriors on part time is a full-time coach of CAPS United.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) have resolved to hire him on a full-time basis which stands to reason that the dread-locked coach would have to relinquish his post at CAPS United to take up the Warriors job, the biggest in Zimbabwean football.

There had been unconfirmed reports that the reigning league champions had offered Mhlauri a more enticing package in a bid to retain his services.

Mhlauri who guided Zimbabwe to the African Cup of Nations finals in Egypt next year for the second time after Sunday Chidzambwa led them to their maiden appearance in Tunisia last year is regarded as one of the best coaches on the domestic soccer scene.

Mhlauri won the league title plus the Zifa Unity Cup and the Buddie Charity Shield with CAPS United last season. Despite this success story with the Green Machine, CAPS United have resolved to put the interests of the nation first.

Club chief executive Kingstone Savanhu said they would support Mhlauri if he joins the Warriors on a permanent basis.

“This is a national job and there is no reason for us to try to block him from taking up this job.

It is a good opportunity for him and we will support him if he gets the job.
We are proud of what Charles has done at CAPS United but this is a national issue and we will give him all the support,” said Savanhu.

Although Mhlauri maintains that for him to take up the job on a full time basis it would depend on the package he would be offered, coaching the Warriors is a real challenge that any good coach would want to take up.

Zifa board member for development Remigio Makoni said they would be meeting Mhlauri to finalise the issue.

“We will be meeting with him (Mhlauri) soon and table the package for him to consider. I am sure he will accept the job. He would, among other duties, be involved in conducting some coaching clinics as well as assisting the junior national teams,” said Makoni.

Mhlauri whose charges take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their last World Cup qualifier in Abuja, Nigeria next month is also expected to name his assistant who would replace Moses Chunga ahead of the biennial tournament in Egypt - Daily Mirror
