Zimbabwe unfazed by Nigeria
By
Tawanda Tafirenyika Speaking from the team’s hotel in Abuja yesterday Ndlovu said they were ready to face the mighty Nigerians. The Warriors who arrived in Abuja in the morning are looking at avenging the 3-0 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Super Eagles on September 5 last year at the National Sports Stadium in Harare. The Warriors are already through to the African Cup of Nations finals in Egypt next year and will only be playing for pride when they tangle the Super Eagles. Zimbabwe coach Charles Mhlauri and his charges have maintained they are not in Nigeria for a holiday although they have already secured a ticket for their second successive Nations Cup final appearance. Nigeria will be missing star player and captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha who is still nursing an ankle injury sustained in an English Premier league match which pitted his club Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic last Saturday. But Mhlauri who has transformed himself into one of the best coaches to have taken charge of the Warriors is not showing any respect for the Super Eagles. He says his wish was to play a full strength Nigerian squad. Although they will be missing the services of their captain, Nigeria have a capable replacement in the form of Nwanko Kanu. Kanu who missed the trip to Harare in September last year has been called to the squad and is expected to star for the Super Eagles tomorrow. Nigeria need to win against the Warriors and pray that Angola draw or fall to Rwanda the same day for them to go through to Germany. A win for Angola
by any margin will give the Palancas Negras a ticket to Germany even
if Nigeria beat the Warriors - Daily Mirror |
