Come on Zimbabwe!
By Sports
Reporter That's the yell from the stands most of you will be sending out as Zimbabwe embark on a tricky mission to rewrite history when they take on Algeria in a World Cup qualifier Sunday. On paper, the Algerians look stronger than our Warriors. Of course if you are Zimbabwe and accustomed to poor administration of almost everything -- you will always be second favourites at anything. But the same was said when Sunday Marimo led the Warriors to their first Nations Cup Finals last February. Against Algeria on Sunday, little Zimbabwe have nothing to lose which will take a great deal of pressure off the Warriors' shoulders. A win will surely secure Rahman Gumbo the job as Warriors substantive coach. He told New Zimbabwe.com Sports: "I am not worried about being the substantive coach, I am more concerned with getting a result. A draw will be good, and a win will be fantastic. But we have to remember that we are playing one of the best teams in Africa and need to guard against over confidence." A fixture against Algeria in a World Cup qualifier provides Zimbabwe with a little opportunity for revenge. It was Algeria who first inflicted defeat on Zimbabwe on their maiden appearence in the competition way back in 1989. Zimbabwe will be without first choice goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro through injury, but welcome back the fully-fit Benjani Mwaruwari after a long absence from football. Gumbo said it was unlikely Mwaruwari would get the nod for a first team start but would definitely play some part in the game. COME ON ZIMBABWE! Probable Line Up: T. Kapini,
B. Ndlovu, C. Yohane, D. Mpofu, K. Tembo, D. Kapenya, E. Nyandoro, T.
