ZIMBABWE were drawn to play West African giants Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal in next year's African Nations Cup finals in Egypt during a draw in Cairo on Thursday night.

Zimbabwe's second dance at the Nations Cup couldn't have been made any more difficult, especially after their 5-1 pummelling by their Group D opponents, Nigeria, during the qualifiers three weeks ago.

Senegal beat Nigeria after extra-time in a bruising semi-final encounter at the 2002 finals, days after Nigeria had beaten Ghana in the last eight.

Hosts Egypt was drawn with Ivory Coast in Group A, renewing their recent World Cup qualifying rivalry during which the Ivorians finished top of the section to reach the finals for the first time.

Libya and Morocco are also in Group A. Tunisia will begin the defence of its title against Zambia in Alexandria. Also drawn in Group C were Guinea and South Africa.

Of the top seeds, Cameroon will have been the most satisfied, based here in Group B along with Democratic Republic of Congo and the two surprise World Cup finalists, Angola and Togo.

"All the groups turned out to be really difficult," said Angola coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves at the draw ceremony, held in a desert tent overlooking the Pyramids.

The tournament opens with a derby between Egypt and Libya here on January 20 with the final on February 10.
