Ziana in deal with Chinese media group By Staff
Reporter "The two parties said the agreement was a result of a realisation of threats posed by global onslaughts on the sovereignty and independence of smaller nations through transnational news agencies, electronic media and the use of economic and political muscle by the West," the state-controlled Herald reported. China is considered a key ally by Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe who claims his government is the victim of a smear campaign by Western journalists, including those from former colonial power Britain. The agreement means China and Zimbabwe will be able to tell the "story of China and Zimbabwe through the eyes of their own nationals", reads part of the agreement quoted in the Herald. The two media organisations will also exchange staff and use each other's correspondents for live news coverage. "We have agreed on training programmes, which will see them (China Radio) sending their people here and vice-versa," said the chief executive officer of New Ziana, Munyaradzi Matanyaire. China is becoming
increasingly influential in Zimbabwe. It has invested in various sectors
of the Southern African country's economy, including mining, telecommunications
and power generation. - Sapa |
