Sex scandal rocks Herald House

ZIMBABWEAN police are on the hunt for a top radio DJ sentenced to 20 days in jail in absentia for failing to settle a $55 000 (about £5) debt for a pair of shoes he bought in 2003, reports said yesterday.

Power FM (formerly Radio 3) DJ Davis Mugadza who calls himself "Sweetness" on air finally discovered there was nothing sweet with failing to settle his debts when he was sentenced by Gweru magistrate Douglas Chikwekwe on 29 December in his absence.

Mugadza failed to respond to summons for civil imprisonment sent to him in November to show why a decree of civil imprisonment now totaling $126 326.37 should not be made against him, the State-run Chronicle newspaper reported.

Mugadza bought a pair of shoes from Ivy Nyoni some time in 2003 and has since failed to settle the account.

When Mugadza’s summons for imprisonment were applied he had been issued with summons commencing action, summons for default judgement and summons of execution against property to no avail since Mugadza never responded to any of them.

Part of the summons reads: “Nyoni's claim against Mugadza is in the sum of $55 000 being sum in respect of shoes sold and delivered to defendant which amount when due despite demand defendant failed or refused to settle,”

Efforts by the Messenger of Court to pick up Mugadza from Power FM have been allegedly fruitless as some security officers guarding the premises have refused the Messenger of Court entrance after they got wind of Mugadza’s 20 days imprisonment, the Chronicle reported.

Mugadza is one of Power FM’s longest serving DJ’s and used to be commonly known by his fans as ‘Cool Mo Dee’ and has often been confused as Power FM’s Mudhara Zoba.

Mugadza, it was reported, was recently thrown out by his landlord after failing to pay rent of $600 000 for a flat in Athlone suburb.
