ZBH board cut as Muradzikwa named CEO By Staff
Reporter The veteran journalist who demanded a new Mercedes before assuming his job will head two ZBH subsidiary companies divided into television and radio. Muradzikwa is expected to carry through a restructuring exercise announced by former Information Minister Tichaona Jokonya just before his sudden death in June. The restructuring exercise, thought to be an attempt to reverse former Information Minister Jonathan Moyo's media revolution, will include significant job cuts. When he announced the restructuring, Jokonya said: "I am not going to speculate on the fall out. My feelings are that we are not going to lose too much people." Muradzikwa's first act as new boss was to trim the ZBH board members from 25 to 11. Media analysts see Muradzikwa's appointment as an attempt by the Zanu PF government to get an old hand to manage the succession politics within the party in the key months leading towards President Mugabe's intended exit from power. ZBH workers fear Muradzikwa will undermine the younger employees and eventually force them out as he seeks to realign the company and promote Mugabe's loyalists. One ZBH staffer
said: "It seems all the young managers are on their way out." |
