PRESIDENTIAL spokesman George Charamba has delayed the announcement of new managers at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings (ZBH) demanding that the government must be consulted.

New Zimbabwe.com revealed the full list of new managers that new ZBH boss Henry Muradzikwa was ready to announce two weeks ago.

Muradzikwa said this week: “We still have to clear some bureaucratic issues and problems amongst ourselves. Once those have been cleared, I don’t know when, I will be able to convene another briefing and make the announcements."

President Robert Mugabe's press secretary Charamba told state media earlier this week that as the sole shareholder in ZBH, "corporate logic" dictated that the government should approve Muradzikwa's appointees.

Charamba said: “As a matter of corporate logic, we have an interest in the appointment of people to management positions. Government, by virtue of being the sole shareholder, has to be interested when management appointments are done. We have to know who is appointed to what position because that is what corporate governance requires of anyone who funds any corporate entity."

Muradzikwa's new team has Lydia Mavhengere and Ishmael Kadungure as the General Managers for TV and Radio Services respectively.

Alson Mufiri was to be named as Mavhengere's deputy and Admire Taderera as deputy to Kadungure.

Muradzikwa also wants Tazzen Mandizvidza confirmed as head of news while Robson Mhandu will move to Gweru to head a new Radio Station called 247 SW which will broadcast on the short wave frequency in direct competition with the Voice of America's Studio 7 and SW Radio Africa which broadcasts from London.

The ZBH will not renew contracts for departmental CEO's whose terms expired at the end of November.

If Muradzikwa's appointments are approved, Susan Makore, who has been CEO for ZTV is on her way out. She applied for the new general manager's post for television services but was turned down.
