OLIVER Mtukudzi, Thomas Mapfumo and Malaika all arrived in London on Thursday ahead of weekend gigs around the UK.

Mtukudzi and Mapfumo are set to share the stage in Leicester on Friday night, while up north in Leeds Malaika will be staging a solo show.

South African pop group Malaika and Mtukudzi then share the stage at London’s Stratford Rex on Saturday night.

Mtukudzi and Malaika arrived Thursday morning, with Mapfumo jetting in from the United States on an evening flight.

Mapfumo’s new manager, Robin Mattison, said: “Thomas and the group are looking forward to the tour and they are all very excited about it.

“There should be some new songs and golden oldies that all his fans will definitely enjoy during the tour.

“They are now under new management and everything is in order for a great tour.”

Mapfumo has added more solo gigs. As Mtukudzi and Malaika head for London on Saturday, Mapfumo and his Blacks Unlimited band will stage a gig at The Music Box in Manchester.

Mukanya, as the veteran singer is affectionately known, will stay for another week in the UK and wind up his tour with a performance at the Stratford Rex on Saturday, November 27.

Malaika touched down on Thursday morning and took a road trip to Leeds, as Mtukudzi and his Black Spirits travelled to Leicester.

Tshedi Mholo and Bongani Nchang joined fans at a pre-party in a Leeds nightclub ahead of Friday’s show.

Malaika are launching their new album, Mmatswale, on the tour.
