MAFIKIZOLO star Nhlanhla Nciza has been described as “totally crushed” after her five-year-old daughter, Zinathi, was tragically killed, sources said in a car crash on Monday.
A brief statement issued by TS Records, where Nhlanhla’s husband Thembinkosi Nciza is an executive, said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of TK and Nhlanhla Nciza’s only daughter, little Zinathi Nciza who tragically passed away on December 7, 2009.
“The family is currently making funeral arrangements to lay their daughter to rest and funeral details will be communicated in due course.
“We urge the media to be sensitive and give the Nciza family all the privacy that they deserve during their time of mourning.
“The TS Records Family would like to convey their deepest condolences to the Nciza Family.”
The statement did not say how Zinathi died. But a source close to the family said she died following a car accident.
She was a passenger in a car driven by Thembinkosi Nciza’s mum, the source added.
“She’s totally crushed. It was so unexpected … Her daughter was the most important thing in her life,” the friend said.
Another of Nhlanhla’s friends, Malaika’s Tshedi Mholo, said on her Facebook: “My condolences to the Ncizas and Mafus (Nhlanhla’s family). Both our kids were born on the same year, same month and 9 days’ difference. Not long ago we were discussing their first year and grade 1, 2010 in school (sic). I'm sorry my friend.”
Nhlanhla recently spoke in an interview of the challenges of being a mother and entertainer at the same time.
"I just felt bad that at one time I didn't see my child when she took her first steps, and when she said her first words. Those are important moments in your life when you are a parent," she revealed.
Nhlanhla has recorded two albums as a solo artist with TS Records amid fears by fans she may never record with Theo Kgosinkwe as Mafikizolo again.
Mafikizolo, one of the biggest Afro-pop groups in South Africa, have not released an album in the last two years.
