MUSIC legend Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi will this year headline the Ibumba International Arts Festival in Bulawayo.

Makokoba will be abuzz when the annual arts fete roars into life from December 16 to 22, at the iconic Stanley Square, running under the theme No Limits.

The seven-day arts festival will feature some of the finest music, dance, literature, poetry, comedy, and theatre performances.

Festival Director, Saimon Mambazo Phiri, confirmed that Tuku will be the main act at the festival.

"This year's Ibumba Festival will be headlined by Zimbabwe's number one superstar Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi who holds his only full public show in Bulawayo at Ibumba Main Stage (Stanley Square) on Sunday 21st December.

"Tuku returns to play for the first time in years in Bulawayo's oldest township of Makokoba. He is famously known for his husky soulful voice and has held sell-out concerts on stages in Europe, America, Australia and beyond," said Phiri.

Phiri added: "Tuku is the best and our theme is 'No Limits' we are going all out for the best."

The lineup also boasts of some of the best performers from the City of Kings which includes Iyasa, Ndolwane Super Sounds, Magwaza, Black Umfolosi, Otis Ngwabi, Vocal X, Family Voices, all-female acapella group Nobuntu and Bambelela Arts Ensemble, among others.

Iyasa will perform their exciting production, Afrika Alive, a mixture of traditional, contemporary, pantsula and gumboot dances from Southern Africa.

Popular dub poet, Albert Nyathi, will also make an appearance at the festival, with a performance at the official opening show.

The comedy section promises to be another highlight of the festival, with some of the leading stand-up comedians who include Clive Chigubu, Babongile Skhonjwa and new comedy acts, expected to thrill comedy lovers.

To cap the end of the festival, a social soccer tournament will be held on the last day of the festival.
